1. Your right to delete
Under the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021, Article 15) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (Article 17), you may request deletion of your SIVE account and the personal data we hold about you at any time, free of charge, without giving a reason.
This page is the public entry point for that right. You do not need to be signed in to read this page or to begin a deletion request.
2. How to request deletion
SIVE offers two routes. Use whichever is easier for you — both lead to the same outcome.
Option A · In-app (signed-in members)
If you can still sign in to your SIVE account:
- Open the app and sign in.
- Go to Settings → Account → Delete account, or visit app.joinsive.com/member/account-deletion directly.
- Confirm the request. You will receive an email confirmation within minutes that the 30-day grace period has started. If you would like written confirmation once anonymisation has completed, reply to that email and we will send it on request.
Option B · By email (for everyone, including non-members)
If you have lost access to your account, never finished sign-up, or simply prefer email:
- Email support@joinsive.com from the email address associated with your SIVE account.
- Use the subject line: "Account deletion request".
- Include the phone number associated with the account if you remember it (helps us locate the right record).
If you write to us from a different email address than the one on file, we may ask for one additional piece of information to verify the request is genuinely yours, in line with PDPL Article 14.
3. What gets removed
Once your request is verified and processed, SIVE removes the information that personally identifies you:
- Your profile is anonymised on our database: full name is replaced with the literal "Deleted Member"; email is replaced with an irreversible hash; phone number, Instagram handle, other social handles (Twitter, TikTok), website, bio, voice-intro transcript, and avatar are cleared.
- Profile photos, gallery photos, and voice intro are permanently deleted from Cloudflare R2 object storage.
- The encrypted-at-rest mirrors of your name, email, phone, Instagram handle, bio, and city are cleared.
- Once anonymisation runs at the end of the grace period, the account can no longer be signed into because the email is replaced with an irreversible hash and the password no longer resolves to a usable identity.
Honest disclosure: a small number of operational fields (date of birth, city) and any background push-subscription records are not actively scrubbed by the same job — they either remain attached to the "Deleted Member" row with no link back to you, or are cleaned up when their normal lifecycle expires. If you would like any of these scrubbed on request, email support@joinsive.com and we will do it manually within 30 days.
4. What we keep, and why
Some records are kept where UAE law obliges us, or where they are genuinely necessary to keep other members' records intact, to prevent fraud, or to defend a dispute. After deletion these records are no longer linked to your name, email, phone, or photos — only to the anonymised "Deleted Member" label.
- Historical RSVPs, event attendance, and chat messages — these remain attached to the anonymised "Deleted Member" label so other members' RSVPs, conversations, and attendance records stay intact. Other members will see the sender as "Deleted Member"; none of your identifying details are recoverable from these records. If a specific chat message contains identifying information you sent, you can ask us to redact it as part of your deletion request.
- Identity-verification verdict (pass/fail) and the Sumsub reference token — retained for up to 5 years as a risk-based safety and fraud-prevention record, and to evidence that the verification step took place at the time of admission. We do not retain the underlying ID document or selfie; those are held by our identity-verification provider (Sumsub), which acts as an independent controller under its own retention policy.
- Audit trail of privileged actions — admin decisions that affected your account (approve, reject, suspend, restore) are recorded in an append-only audit log. These records carry the action, a reason code, and the anonymised "Deleted Member" label — not your profile content. The audit trail is technically append-only (no row can be updated or deleted) and is retained for the lifetime of the platform for fraud-defence and forensic purposes.
- Anti-abuse signals — if your account was closed for safety, fraud, or community-violation reasons, we retain a minimal hash of the email and phone to prevent re-registration under the same identity. We do not retain the plaintext.
- Email-deliverability state — bounce / unsubscribe / spam-report flags are kept indefinitely to honour your communication preferences and to comply with sender-reputation rules of our email provider (SendGrid).
- Aggregate, anonymised analytics — counts and rates that cannot be linked back to you may be retained for product analytics.
If a law-enforcement or regulator request requires us to preserve additional records, we will hold them under quarantine — with access restricted to authorised personnel only — and delete them as soon as the obligation ends.
5. How long it takes
- Acknowledgement — in-app requests are acknowledged immediately on screen and by email. Email requests sent to support@joinsive.com are acknowledged within 48 hours.
- Grace period — the account remains active for 30 days so you can cancel the deletion and resume normal use by signing back in. This window is also our PDPL Article 14 response window.
- Completion — after the 30-day grace period, the anonymisation described in §3 runs automatically. If you would like written confirmation that it has completed, reply to your acknowledgement email and we will send it on request.
6. After deletion
- Your account cannot be recovered. If you want to rejoin SIVE later, you will need to apply again as a new member.
- Any messages you sent inside the platform will continue to appear in the other party's chat history as sent by "Deleted Member". As noted in §4, the message text remains so the other party's conversation stays intact; your identity is no longer attached to it. You can ask us to redact specific message contents as part of your deletion request.
- Photos shared with the SIVE network are removed from our storage; we cannot remove copies that members downloaded or screenshotted before deletion. Screenshots of private chats and profiles are explicitly prohibited under our Community Guidelines.
7. Right to complain
If you believe SIVE has not handled your deletion request lawfully, you may lodge a complaint with the UAE Data Office (the supervisory authority under the PDPL). If you are an EEA or UK resident, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection supervisory authority.
Our preference is always to resolve the matter directly — please contact us first at support@joinsive.com so we can put it right.
